Ladysmith KZN: Spreading awareness about bullying at Sakhelwe High School

All stakeholders honoured the initiation of these “peace talks” aimed at ending school violence

An awareness campaign took place at Sakhelwe High School last Wednesday (May 5) .The campaign was with specific emphasis on bullying at school, which has affected teaching and learning in many schools within the Ezakheni jurisdiction.

It was said that schools have been infiltrated by “gangster groups” and “chaotic cabals” formed by learners.

These groupings are said to be in existence even within the residential areas of Ezakheni and surrounding areas.

Led by Ladysmith Mayor Vincent Madlala, the intervention programme commenced at Sakhelwe High School and all stakeholders honoured the initiation of these “peace talks” aimed at ending the ongoing school violence and bullying taking place.

This ongoing violent rivalry between gangster-associated learners has negatively affected ‘innocent’ learners, and dangerous weapons have been confiscated on many occasions. School grounds have turned into battlefields and many learners have been stabbed as a result. Some have been expelled.
