NEWCASTLE KZN: Police seize heroin during raid, two suspects arrested

This week, police managed to take R800 worth of heroin off the streets.

An intelligence driven operation in the Osizweni policing area has yielded positive results for law enforcement officials.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office, members from Osizweni Crime Prevention conducted the operation on Monday and Tuesday this week (May 3 and 4).

“On Monday night, members were on patrol in Section A, Osizweni and arrested one suspect for obstructing a police official who was affecting an arrest. The suspect was found to be in contravention of Level 1 of the Disaster Management Act of 2020,” confirmed Arumugam.

The next afternoon, officials arrived at a residence in Section A where they arrested one suspect for possession of heroin drugs and recovered 14 small parcels of the drug.

“The estimated street value of the heroin confiscated was approximately R800. The two suspects, who are 29 and 30 years old, have since appeared at the Madadeni Magistrates Court.”
