DUNDEE KZN: What’s On calendar starts filling up again

As the lockdown restrictions ease, the Whats On calendar is finally starting to fill up. Here are a few events coming up:

May 7: Pancake sale The legendary St James Church pancakes will be on sale on Friday, May 7, from 1.30pm at the St James Anglican Hall in aid of church restoration. For details, contact Alixe Fraser on 082-490-6079.

May 7-9: Battlefields Fly-In After a hiatus in 2020 due to the severe lockdown restrictions, the Battlefields Fly-In will take off this weekend from May 7 to 9. This will be the 21st event of its kind at Battlefields Country Lodge, and the Fly-In has developed into one of the ‘must-see’ events on the local social calendar.

Pilots and their flying machines from around the country are expected to land at the lodge from early Friday morning. The lodge will host a Chinese braai in the evening, with a chance to see the famous battlefields from the air on Saturday. There will also be game spotting, leisure flying, and a chance to chat to the pilots and even ‘catch a ride’ in one of their machines. I

n the evening, the musical trio of ‘The Gee Jays’ will entertain and a lamb-on-the-spit will close the evening, accompanied by lots of fun and chatting about the day. There will be more leisure flying on Sunday.

May 29: French Evening

 

The annual commemoration of the death of the French Prince Imperial is held on the Saturday closest to the anniversary of this death in the Anglo-Zulu War – June 1, 1879. The French Soirée is a highlight on the social calendar, co-ordinated by local French-speaking tour guide Elisabeth Durham and Glenn Flanagan of Pietermaritzburg, who founded the Prince Imperial Route. There will be a four-course meal of French cuisine. For details, call 072-779-5949.
