ESTCOURT KZN: Building fire breaks out at farm

Once it was ascertained that no one was trapped inside, co-ordinated efforts to extinguish the fire began

Fire service personnel rushed to the scene of a building fire at Baso’s Farm on the Wembezi road just before 11am today (May 5).

Umtshezi Fire Protection Association and Inkosi Langalibalele Fire and Rescue Services responded within minutes.

Chairperson of the Umtshezi Fire Protection Association Warren Blaker said that when they arrived, the building was fully engulfed in flames and once it was ascertained that no one was trapped inside, co-ordinated efforts to extinguish the fire began.

“As there are no fire hydrants nearby, we made a call for additional support from N3TC for a tanker. Gratefully an uThukela tanker stopped to assist with water as well,” commented Mr Blaker.

Swift work from the fire fighters saw the fire contained and quelled.

“We would like to extend our thanks to N3TC for the backup and commend Inkosi Langalibalele Fire and Rescue Services for their brave efforts. The cause of the fire is unknown and will be investigated by the authorities,” concluded Mr Blaker.
