NEWCASTLE KZN: Ladysmith anglers dominate at local angling league

The league title was 'all but wrapped up' by the LAC, with the rest of the pack jostling for the runners-up position.

Ladysmith Angling Club dominated at the final round of the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) Devland Impuphu Wholesalers League, which was fished at Sandford Islands at Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam.

According to NFWAA president, Shabir Ismail, the league title was ‘all but wrapped up’ by the LAC, with the rest of the pack jostling for the runners-up position.

“After the routine tasks were performed prior to the main event, eager anglers sped off to their respective fishing spots,” chuckled Ismail.

As far as the weather was concerned, he added, anglers could not have asked for a better day.

“The fish played their part as well… There were 10 fish that weighed above 3kg, which is unusual for Ntshingwayo Dam,” he revealed.

Adrian Ince of Itec Freespool won the prize money and trophy for the heaviest carp, which weighed in at 3.94kg, while his teammate, Gerrit Harmse walked away with the accolade of catching the heaviest barbel for the third consecutive outing.

“Gerrit also reeled in an impressive 14 fish, earning him and his team 21 points,” confirmed Ismail.

It was a tense weigh-in at the end as defending champion, Itec Freespool (84 points) finished a close second to Ladysmith (94 points).

“Chelmsford and Docrats could not be separated and ended in joint third position with 36 points apiece. Riverside and Endumeni finished in fifth and sixth positions respectively.”

On behalf of the NFWAA, Ismail thanked the organisation’s main sponsor, Devland Impuphu Wholesalers for its generous sponsorship for the past season.

“The executive of NFWAA also wishes to pass on its condolences to the families of anglers who passed on during this challenging season. I also wish all Muslim anglers and their families Ramadan Kareem,” concluded Ismail.
