Three suspected killers, two aged 40 and the other 41, appeared in the Nongoma Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday last week on two counts of attempted murder and murder. They were each granted bail of R6000. The case was remanded to June 15.
The three suspects, who are taxi owners, were arrested by the Provincial Taxi Task Team on the morning of April 13 at Nongoma.
It is alleged that at about 6pm on November 25 last year, three brothers were on their way home in the Dabhasi area, returning from Nongoma, when they were ambushed by armed suspects who opened fire.
Kende Nkosi (32) was fatally shot in the head, while his two brothers sustained leg injuries and were rushed to hospital. The suspects fled in their vehicle. Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at KwaNongoma police station and the docket was transferred to the Provincial Taxi Task Team for further investigation.
The second brother, Linda Nkosi (43), was released from hospital and was recovering at home when he and his wife were shot by two unknown suspects on February 28. Nkosi and his wife, Nonkululeko Gcabashe (38), were at their home in the Dabhasi area when suspects forced their way into the house and opened fire, fatally wounding Nkosi. His wife was rushed to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on arrival. Charges of murder were investigated by the Provincial Taxi Team.
At this stage, police cannot confirm whether the arrested suspects are linked to these two counts of murder, since the investigation is still continuing.
