ESTCOURT KZN: Sign up to learn South Africa’s 12th official language

The team at Project Life want to extend the sign language lessons to locals as part of a community outreach programme

Project Life, which is a school that caters for children with learning and physical disabilities, is bringing something new not only for the learners but also for the entire community.

Sign language lessons will now be open to the community, and educator Sabelo Khumalo says “it’s so easy that anyone can learn”.

The learners at Project Life were eager to show what they had been learning, and Mr Khumalo called each one to the front of the class and gave them a task.

Whether it was signing the alphabet, colours or days of the week, it was obvious that the learners had become accustomed to the finger / hand gestures and executed each task with ease.
