GLENCOE KZN: Bit of a fishy at Sarel Cilliers High School

Team Sarel came home with the coveted fishing trophy

Some of the male Sarel Cilliers staff went fishing this past weekend, taking part in the inter-school fishing competition. With the most fish caught over a 24-hour period, Team Sarel came home with the coveted fishing trophy and many a large tale of the big catch of the day.

Most of the fish were released back into the farm dam to live another day. A weekend of great fun and excellent camaraderie is what fishing is all about.

Congratulations to Team Sarel Cilliers! Sarel Cilliers star athlete Mongezi Langa travelled all the way to Cape Town over the weekend to represent KwaZulu-Natal in the inter-school athletics championships. With a personal best of 1.95 metres in the High Jump event and the winner of gold medals in High Jump and Javelin at the KZN School Athletics Championships, there were high hopes that Mongezi would do well. Unfortunately, Mongezi was only able to jump once in the High Jump before sustaining an injury, effectively dashing all hopes of competing in the rest of the competition.

As a Grade 11 learner, the school has full confidence that Mongezi will continue to improve on his personal best. He says that his personal goal is to jump at least two metres in the future. Girls have fun Weekends in the hostel can drag on forever, but not this past one.

There was great excitement at the Girls’ Hostel over the weekend, with the girls being treated to a braai and a modelling competition. The Grade 8 and 9 girls were encouraged to walk the catwalk and then were shown how the experts do it, by the senior girls. Well done to Nomfundo (Grade 10), Luthaba (Grade 8) and Mandisa (Grade 9) on their excellent deportment and team spirit. The hostel girls would like to thank Mrs Pretorius and Mr Soobramoney for the event. Term 1 is almost at an end and the last week will be devoted to tests in all the subjects. Study hard and do well, as every mark counts!
