VRYHEID KZN: Suspect still on the run as police recover 1300kg of dagga

The recovered drugs have a street value of about R2 million.

A suspect managed to escape, but police recovered millions of rands worth of drugs after receiving a tip-off. Members of the Zululand Task Team, together with the Vryheid K9 Unit and Vryheid Crime Intelligence (CI), acted on information that a suspect driving an Audi was allegedly transporting tons of dagga towards Durban. The officers mobilised to patrol the R34 road from Vryheid to Ulundi. The said motor vehicle was spotted and stopped, but it suddenly sped off and a chase ensued until the Gluckstad forest, where the suspect jumped out of the car and fled on foot. Police searched the vehicle and found 14 bags of dagga, weighing a whopping 1300kg. The recovered drugs have a street value of about R2 million. A search is still on for the suspect. Both the dagga and the white Audi motor vehicle have been registered with Vryheid SAPS.
