ESTCOURT KZN: Woman raped after a night out at a tavern

"People must be accompanied by someone known and trusted when going out to enjoy the evening"

A 28-year-old woman and her boyfriend have opened a case of rape at the Ntabamhlophe police station after the alleged incident took place at a tavern in the area.

During the early hours of March 16, the woman and a friend went to a tavern and were enjoying a drink.

The friend decided to leave the tavern, leaving the woman behind in the company of a man who is employed at the tavern.

According to police, the woman later woke up in the man’s bed and was being raped.

She later managed to go to her boyfriend who accompanied her to the Ntabamhlophe police station where a rape docket was opened and transferred to Estcourt Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit that is investigating the case.

“We are urging people to stop drinking alone, especially when at a tavern, in the middle of the night. People must be accompanied by someone known and trusted when going out to enjoy the evening,” said police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.

The Estcourt FCS Unit is requesting anyone with information that will help them investigate the case and arrest the suspect to contact them at 086-0010-111 or use the ‘MySAPS’ app to provide information.
