Ladysmith KZN: Stolen alcohol recovered by vigilant police officers

More liquor was found hidden at a house used by the suspects

Ladysmith police officers were carrying out routine patrol duties on Wednesday (March 17) when they noticed suspicious activities taking place in the Plaza area of the CBD.

The vigilant officers decided to investigate the situation and their instincts proved to be spot-on.

The policemen found that stolen alcohol was being transported by a number of suspects.

The investigation led police to a house at 81 Forbes Street, which was being used by the criminals.

On arrival at the house, the SAPS recovered more alcohol hidden on the premises.

The suspects also showed the police where they had stolen the alcohol from. The liquor was allegedly stolen from a tavern in the Plaza centre.

The owners of the tavern were not even aware that their place of business had been broken into. They were surprised when police contacted them about the incident.

Two suspects, aged 22 and 26, were arrested and detained at Ladysmith SAPS. They have since appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court for a bail application.

Ladysmith Acting Station Commander, Colonel TM Mngadi, praised the arresting officers for their good work.

“I encourage business owners to hire and employ security personnel to look after their businesses, especially during the night. They must not just leave their places unattended, because police cannot be everywhere at the same time.” commented Colonel Mngadi.
