Ladysmith KZN: Massive potholes leave resident exasperated

The municipality says that the potholes in Bengal Road are scheduled to be repaired by the end of the week

A frustrated and furious resident in Bengal Road says that “we pay our taxes, but our roads cannot be repaired!”

This is in response to massive potholes that dot Bengal Road, making it extremely difficult for motorists to negotiate that stretch of road.

The resident adds that, “As we drive on these terrible roads, our cars are getting damaged and we have to repair them at our own cost.”

When it rains, water fills the holes in the road, making it difficult to see where they are, so a tyre could easily thump down into a ‘ditch’ and burst.

He and other residents now demand a reason why this road has not been fixed and when repairs will be carried out.

Local municipality spokesperson Siya Maphalala commented that, “We are currently doing road maintenance in all parts of the municipal jurisdiction.”

He adds by saying that Bengal Road is part of the Road Maintenance Schedule and will be attended to. He said the road should be repaired by the end of this week, as per the schedule and depending on weather conditions.
