ESTCOURT KZN: Athletic club pays tribute to Rupert Driemeyer

He completed 17 Comrades Marathons, as well as two 100-Miler races, in addition to countless other marathons and ultra-marathons

We are all deeply saddened at the loss of one of our stalwart club members, Rupert Driemeyer. Rupert was a superb athlete, but so humble that you would never hear him talk about his achievements.

He completed 17 Comrades Marathons, as well as two 100-Miler races, in addition to countless other marathons and ultra-marathons. Rupert always had a huge smile on his face and a spring in his step. He was always available to help with preparing for club races.

His wife, Jen, and sons, Stef and Dan, would always be alongside – supporting him if he was running or helping out at races. We had many fun club weekends away, camping with Rupert, Jen and the boys.

When diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, Rupert chose to continue working and place his trust in God. He never felt sorry for himself or questioned his fate, but bravely soldiered on, with loving support from his family.

He is finally at peace, safe in the arms of the Lord he loved and served. Rupert, you were a true gentleman, loved and respected by all. We will miss you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jen, Stef, Dan and all his family at this difficult time.
