ESTCOURT KZN: Proactive locals launch #Love Estcourt

One of the first suggestions was a clean-up, after it was agreed that the illegal dumping was worsening

A group of residents who are determined to make a difference in the appearance of the town have come together to start planning a course of action.

Called #Love Estcourt, the group of people that comprises of local ratepayers, met at the Estcourt Athletic Club last Thursday to introduce the group, state its mission and discuss ideas to that restore the town to its former glory.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Brian Taylor who said that the ‘horrible mess’ the town was in had reached a climax.
“Estcourt is now just a junkyard!” he exclaimed.

But instead of waiting for the municipality to attend to the mountain of service delivery complaints, a group of residents decided to take a proactive approach and rally like-minded locals together who can tackle some of the concerns.

“We live in a beautiful town, in a prime spot. We have the best people around and it’s a fantastic place to raise children. If we start on a positive note, do what we can where we can, we can gather momentum and turn the town around,” said Dr Taylor.

The idea of #Love Estcourt is for residents to regain the pride they once had in the town. Anyone who wants to join signs a pledge, committing to do what they can to beautify the town.

Plans to take the group to social media, where it would reach a wider audience, are in the pipeline.
During the meeting, residents also voiced their concerns, gave feedback and viewpoints.

One of the first suggestions was a clean-up, after it was agreed that the illegal dumping was worsening.
At Thursday’s inaugural meeting, it was agreed that ten volunteers would be on a committee and that everyone present should spread the word about #Love Estcourt.
