NEWCASTLE KZN: Libraries, galleries and other municipal public facilities have re-opened

The municipality assures residents all Covid-19 rules and regulations will be adhered to.

The Newcastle Municipality has confirmed all local libraries, museums, art galleries and halls are now open to the public once again.

In a press statement this morning, issued by the Communications Unit, the municipality assured residents all Covid-19 rules and restrictions would be strictly adhered to, in line with current lockdown regulations.

This includes restricting gatherings at municipal halls to 50 people at most.

“Libraries, the museum [Fort Amiel] and art gallery [Carnegie] will continue to operate as per the approved guidelines and procedures from the provincial Department of Arts and Culture, which were in place prior to the national lockdown in January,” read the statement.

Library operating hours are as follows from Monday to Friday:

9am to 10am: reserved for patrons age 60 and older

10am to 3pm: open for all patrons

The Newcastle Library will be closed on Saturdays for decontamination and sanitising.
