BERGVILLE KZN: Hunt is on for five men who bound and terrorised couple

Two unknown men invaded the home, according to police, one was armed with a firearm and the other was carrying a knife

A Bergville couple was bound and terrorised in their home on Saturday (February 20) as they sat down to morning tea.

At about 7am, two unknown men invaded the home, according to police, one was armed with a firearm and the other was carrying a knife.

The suspects separated the couple, taking the woman inside while they demanded money from the man who was outside on the veranda.

When the couple was reunited inside the house, the suspects continued their depraved mission.

According to police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi, the woman who was bound was burned with an iron on her stomach.

“They took a laptop, jewellery and other items. They fled, leaving the victims behind. The complainant managed to untie himself and seek assistance,” said Captain Nyathi.

Despite an extensive search that comprised of community members and police, utilising a helicopter, there was no trace of the five men who police believe may have fled to the Free State.
