VRYHEID KZN: New developments regarding Sasko roads

she reiterates that she cannot pinpoint exactly when these issues will be straightened out, since there are people who are assigned for the projects in different municipal departments.

Last week, there were complaints from Sasko area residents about the condition of the roads at the new RDP houses.

The residents say they have been promised proper roads since last year, but are still waiting for the promises to materialise.

Ward Councillor Magda Viktor responded to the issue, stating that she is aware of the situation and knows about the poor condition of the roads. “People must not think that, as councillors, we are just sitting at home with money. We try to present the needs of the people to the municipality, but we cannot give out exact dates as to when certain things are going to be fixed. That is why we have Integrated Development Planning (IPD) projects and we work with budgets.” She mentioned that, three weeks ago, a grinder was sent to Sasko to work on the roads, but due to the director responsible for the project being on leave, everything was put on hold. “I once saw a video on Facebook of the roadworks where, in a certain area, they constructed a gravel road for the community and after some years, everything was washed away. I am scared that if we do gravel roads, the same thing might happen in Sasko. I want the people to have tar roads; that is why I have been fighting for the community,” she said.

She also outlined the fact that roads are not the only issue the people of Sasko have complained about; water and electricity being other problems she is fully aware of. However, she reiterates that she cannot pinpoint exactly when these issues will be straightened out, since there are people who are assigned for the projects in different municipal departments.

The Vryheid Herald apologises for the misunderstanding that occurred last week, as the councillor did respond to the issue. We are sorry for the inconvenience and the misunderstanding.
