NEWCASTLE KZN : Local police put offenders behind bars

Three suspects have since appeared in court.

A recent crime intelligence driven operation yielded positive results when three offenders within the Osizweni policing area were arrested for various crimes.

According to SAPS Corporate Communications Officer, Lizzy Arumugam the operation was conducted between Tuesday, February 9 and Wednesday, February 10 and focused on drug-related crimes within in area.

“During the early hours of Tuesday morning, members of the Osizweni Crime Prevention were patrolling the Blaauwbosch area, where the first suspect was apprehended for being in possession of twelve parcels of heroin,” said Arumugam.

She confirmed a second suspect was arrested in Section A after police caught him in possession of three whole Mandrax tablets, as well as a quarter tablet.

The drugs recovered estimated at a street value of approximately R1 000.

“On Wednesday morning a third suspect was arrested after he failed to comply with Covid-19 regulations regarding the set curfew times,” continued Arumugam. “The 59-year-old suspect contravened the Disaster Management Act of 2020 and has appeared in the Madadeni Magistrates Court.”

Arumugam said the operation was a success and all suspects have since appeared in court.
