Ladysmith KZN: Wanted suspect arrested for unlicensed firearms, stolen property

The 28-year-old suspect has appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court

A suspect has finally been nabbed following a lengthy investigation by Bergville SAPS to curb business robbery cases reported during December 2020 and last month (January 2021).

A team of detectives was put in place and with the assistance of other local police stations, a wanted suspect was apprehended.

A vehicle suspected to have been used by suspects was identified and on Saturday (January 30), the vehicle was spotted travelling on the R616.

The car was intercepted and searched. Upon searching the vehicle, the occupant was found to be in possession of two illegal firearms, two toy guns, and several sealed boxes containing cell-phones, airtime and several watches. R10,310 in cash was also seized.

The suspect will be profiled to check if he is linked to robbery cases reported in Bergville and surrounding areas, and the vehicle was impounded for further investigation. More arrests are imminent as the investigation unfolds.

The 28-year-old suspect appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (February 2) on charges of illegal possession of firearms and possession of stolen property.
