CATHKIN PARK KZN: Residents brave high water to rescue dog

The dog was washed over the dam wall

Amos Ndlovu and James Stewart have been hailed ‘heroes of Cathkin Park’ after they made a daring rescue to save the life of a dog that was stranded in the fast-flowing water of the Bell Park Dam Slipway.

The dog was washed over the dam wall on January 16 and managed to swim to the safety of a rock.

Passers-by spotted the stranded dog and raised the alarm. Amos and James sprang into action and facilitated a bold rescue.

A rope anchored James on the bank to Amos, who had waded in the gushing water. In less than three minutes, Amos reached the dog and carried it to safety.

Both men have been praised for their heart-warming and brave effort.

The lucky dog and his owner were later reunited.
