ESTCOURT KZN: Man arrested for stealing petrol from damaged pipeline (video)

The arrested man is being detained at the Estcourt police station holding cells until he appears in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court tomorrow

A 50-year-old man has been arrested and charged for theft of petrol after police caught him red-handed helping himself to fuel from a damaged pipeline in Frere.

At about 10pm on Friday (January 8) police received a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle that was spotted on a farm in Frere.

“When the police arrived, they found a suspect busy filling petrol into his containers. He was stealing petrol from the damaged petrol line that runs from Durban to Johannesburg. A white bakkie was found on the crime scene with several plastic containers,” commented police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.

The man was immediately arrested. The bakkie and containers were confiscated.

The arrested man is being detained at the Estcourt police station holding cells until he appears in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (January 11).
