Ladysmith KZN: Acting principal now officially the headmaster at Egerton

His vision is that Egerton Primary School must be the primary choice for any parent in Ladysmith

Mr HL Slabbert has taken over the reins at Egerton Primary as principal. He has been serving as acting principal at the school up until this point.

The official announcement of his new title was made at the school on Tuesday morning (December 1) by Department of Education circuit manager Mr Hlatshwayo, alongside the School Governing Body (SGB), much to the delight of all the educators and other staff members.

Mr Slabbert was born and raised in Ladysmith and has been married to his wife, Lize, for 24 years. They have two children: daughter Janke, who is studying B.Ed. Foundation Phase at North-West University; and son Heinrich, who is in Grade 12 at Ladysmith High School this year.

Mr Slabbert studied at Durban College of Education and received his Higher Diploma in Education in 1994. He also studied a B.Ed. Honours in Education Management at North-West University and graduated in 2010. He has years of invaluable experience in his field. His first teaching post with the Department of Education & Training was at Besters Agricultural School from January 1995 to June 1996.

He then transferred to Ladysmith High School in June 1996 and taught Geography Grade 8 to 12. He was seconded to Egerton Primary School in December 1997 and taught Grade 6 until he was declared in excess by the Education Department in June 1999.

Next was a post at St Gregory College as deputy principal from July 1999 to December 2000. Mr Slabbert was re-appointed at Egerton Primary School as a Grade 6 class teacher in January 2001, then promoted to HOD in 2009 and deputy principal in January 2011.
