ESTCOURT: Bikers show support against gender-based violence

Flyers were made, which declared: "We stand against GBV, we stand against sexual violence, we stand against domestic violence, we stand against impunity".

In a show of solidarity, bikers from Estcourt and surrounding areas held a ride against gender-based violence (GBV). The grey and wet weather last Saturday meant that the expectedly large turnout of bikers had decreased and a total of 12 riders participated.

Bikers from Estcourt and surrounding areas held a ride against gender-based violence.

The ride was hosted by Estcourt’s Ice Angelz and included the Loskop Riders, Durban Cruisers, Diparola (Ladysmith) and Crankers (Weenen). The idea to host a ride against gender-based violence was sparked by a fellow biker, Thulani Sibisi, due to the rising number of women losing their lives due to abuse and violence.

The group of bikers met in Wembezi, where they handed out flyers and spoke to the residents about GBV. They then set off to the Estcourt Town Hall, where the motorcycles were parked and the bikers set off through Harding Street, educating locals about the scourge of GBV.

The bikers arrive in Estcourt to continue their education about gender-based violence and its devastating effects.

After the mission was complete, the team travelled through the central business district and back to Wembezi for a social lunch. Click to receive news links via WhatsApp. Or for the latest news, visit our webpage or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
