VRYHEID: Ex-Argus rider celebrates his 65th birthday on his bike

Philip has laid his 'road wheels' to rest and is now an enthusiastic mountain bike rider who loves the trails

The wonderful warmer weather and beautiful sunrises on morning rides are perfect for our “A-team” (aka Racing Snakes). The long training rides are in full swing and, slowly, more riders are venturing to mountain bike events. Most recently, Jabu Xulu and Lourens Vlam de Beer took on the Mtunzini trails in horrifically cold, wet and muddy conditions, but thoroughly enjoyed themselves nonetheless. On Monday, a special birthday social ride was held for one of the OBC cyclists, Philip Botha, who turned a very special 65 years old. Philip has been an avid cyclist most of his adult life, starting out as a road cyclist and then completing six Cape Town ‘Argus’ rides. Philip has laid his ‘road wheels’ to rest and is now an enthusiastic mountain bike rider who loves the trails. He still cycles at least three times a week. Congratulations and many blessings from us all, Philip.
