VRYHEID: 13 dead in collision on the R34 Mthonjaneni Pass

A truck and a taxi collided this morning (October 21) on the R34 Mthonjaneni Pass from Nongoma to Durban. The truck veered off the road and crashed down an embankment, while the taxi caught alight. 13 people sadly succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived at the scene. Another four people were critically injured. It is unclear what caused the crash, but authorities are on scene conducting an investigation. Motorists are warned to drive carefully in the area and to make use of an alternative route, since the R34 is currently closed.
