VRYHEID: Market-goers brave cold weather

The atmosphere was lighthearted, although the weather was dreary and cold

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on communities and it’s been a few months since people have been allowed to interact on a social level. This past Saturday (October 10) was the first Paddadam Market Day since national lockdown kicked in, and the community of Vryheid was ‘hungry’ to get out of their houses and experience some kind of normality. The atmosphere was lighthearted, although the weather was dreary and cold. Exhibitors were eager to ‘show off’ their goods, which varied from sweet treats to succulent plants, home décor and braai necessities. The day started off slowly, but as it progressed, more people braved the cold and wet weather to visit the market and explore what local exhibitors had on offer. Children had the opportunity to feed the geese or cavort in the play area while mom and dad browsed through the stalls. An old favourite from the area, Maarten Grobbelaar, ensured that everyone was entertained throughout the day with his upbeat live musical performance. It was a successful day for both exhibitors and visitors alike. Keep an eye on our ‘What’s On’ section for when the next Market Day will be held.
