DUNDEE: Motorists furious with ‘tardy stop/go controls’
One motorist said his car almost hit an oncoming truck
Motorists are up in arms over what they say is ‘random traffic control’ at the stop and go signs up and down Mpati Hill.
The main entrance to Dundee, from the Newcastle side, is being reconstructed, which has resulted in stop and go signs near Majuba College and near the top of Mpati Hill while traffic has been reduced to travelling on a single lane.
However, the Courier has received numerous complaints from motorists that the traffic control ‘is so poor that on many occasions the controllers leave both entrances open resulting in oncoming traffic facing off on the single lane.
“I almost drove into a truck while driving to Uelzen Primary School to pick up my child. The traffic controllers seems to have a lackadaisical attitude,” said one motorist today.
Another said ‘it is almost a common occurrence to have to swerve off the road as you never know when an oncoming vehicle, travelling on the same lane, will bear down on your car’.
The Endumeni Traffic Department has been contacted for comment as this will be published when it is forthcoming. The route is the competency of the KZN Transport Department who is also responsible for the upgrading of the road.
Residents from nearby Craigieburn have expressed dismay over the piles of litter that motorists have chucked out of their car while waiting at the stop/go near the top of Mpati.
