Ladysmith: Water supply disruption causes havoc at Provincial Hospital

Patients do not have water to bath

Ladysmith KZN – Ladysmith Regional Hospital (Provincial Hospital) is currently incapacitated, as it is experiencing interruptions in water supply.

Due to water-shedding, daily operations at the hospital have been disrupted. Patients do not have water to bath, which is an extremely problematic situation.

“The hospital offers essential services to the community of Ladysmith, thus it should have been exempted from water-shedding, as we can barely operate without water. We have installed water tanks around the hospital to assist us if we are experiencing water-shedding, so at least we know we have water in the tanks,” said Ladysmith Provincial Hospital PRO Thabo Sithole.

uThukela District communications manager Jabulani Mkhonza confirmed that areas around Ladysmith are indeed experiencing water-shedding due to the Klip River running dry.

“The community of Ladysmith might soon experience water shortages, as the Klip River abstraction point is running dry on a daily basis. As a result, the Ladysmith area will be compelled to rely on one source of water, which is Spioenkop Dam. If this situation persists, uThukela District Municipality will have to rethink the reintroduction of water-shedding, whereby water will be released for certain hours every day,”said Mkhonza.
