Vryheid KZN: ANC officials will not perform their duties pending IC outcome

"The PEC agreed that it will be inappropriate to release the list to the public when the list is not complete"- Ntuli.

The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the ANC in KZN says that all those officials who must go the Integrity Commission (IC) will not be expected to perform their responsibilities both in government and in the party pending the outcome of the IC.
This was made clear by ANC Provincial Secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli during a press conference on the outcome of the PEC meeting last week.
“All those comrades who are charged will be called to the ANC provincial office to explain to them the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and its implications, so that when they comply with the decision of the NEC, they comply having absolute clarity about what is required of them,” said Ntuli.
He said that when the NEC announced that members needed to step aside from their duties with immediate effect, it also stated that the national officials were mandated to work out the modalities through which the process was going to be carried out.

Ntuli said the NEC needed to ensure that, “There’s a consolidated list across the country and that each and every member who is part of that list is told about the decision and is given a specific time and date to act on the decision. It is then known that anybody who fails to act on that decision within that particular date and time is actually acting in defiance on the position of the movement.”
This move by the ANC in the province follows an announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa that all ANC officials who are facing charges of corruption should step down with immediate effect from their positions.
Ntuli indicated that implicated officials were also expected to go to the IC, “If the IC is convinced that continuing with the comrades will have negative consequences on the integrity of the ANC and says that a comrade must resign, it will have to be done.”
He also highlighted that, “While still undergoing the process of the IC, it may happen that government processes act against you where you have missed so many meetings; therefore you no longer qualify to be a councillor because of missing so many meetings without an acceptable explanation of justification.
“That will make you a candidate for expulsion in that Council. That may happen and unfortunately those are some of the things we will have to deal with if they happen.”
Ntuli further said that they will not make the list of implicated officials public until the list has been consolidated.
“When the PEC met, we had an understanding that we were dealing with about 10/11 comrades, many of whom are councillors. But at the meeting, it emerged that there were some cases that were not included in the list and that some of those cases in the list had new developments.
“The PEC agreed that it will be inappropriate to release the list to the public when the list is not complete, because otherwise it will send an impression that there is a witch-hunt against some comrades and others are being hidden. So we agreed that the PSO must consolidate the list and ensure that before the end of this week, we have a complete list,” he said.
The DA has already called on the ANC to ensure that Mzala Nxumalo Regional Secretary Zakes Buthelezi – together with two ANC councillors in AbaQulusi Municipality, Maria Mabaso and Ntombiyephahla Mdlalose – step down.
This is as a result of the ongoing case of bribery concerning DA councillor Magda Viktor.
