An intelligence driven operation took place in the Osizweni policing area, conducted by Osizweni SAPS and members of the Osizweni Crime Prevention unit.
According to Lizzy Arumugam of Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications, members recovered 21 small parcels of heroin at Section E, and arrested one suspect.
“On the night of September 11, while patrolling on a public road next to Mlondolozi School, members came across a suspect and upon searching him, recovered a black 9-millimetre (mm) pistol, with one black magazine and six life rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition,” added Arumugam.
On the same day, officers managed to recover 54 full Mandrax tablets in Section E, and one suspect was arrested for being in possession of the illicit drug.
“On September 12, members went to Jakalaspan at the CM Tavern and found the tavern was still open selling liquor. One suspect was arrested for contravening Level 2 of the Disaster management Act of 2020, and paid a fine of R5 000,” confirmed Arumugam.
The estimated street value of the Mandrax and heroin drugs recovered was approximately R6 500.
“The two suspects, aged 34 and 44, appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on September 14. Another suspect will appear at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. The 21-year-old suspect charged with contravening the Disaster Management Act of 2020 has also appeared in court,” she concluded.
