“I conned Ladysmith out of R400 million” says man claiming to be ‘Sgumza’

The man on the voice recording is heard bragging about his exploits

Ladysmith KZN – The matter pertaining to the manager of a well-known Ponzi scheme that once emptied the wallets of Ladysmith residents is still under investigation. Bitcoin Wallets manager Sphelele ‘Sgumza’ Mbatha is now being investigated by the Pietermaritzburg Commercial Crime Unit.

This is according to the provincial communications manager of the Hawks, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo. “We can confirm that the investigation is at an advanced stage and that no arrest has been made,” said Capt Mhlongo.

This comes after a voice recording was recently leaked on social media, of a man claiming to be ‘Sgumza’. In the voice recording, the man is heard bragging about how he conned the people of Ladysmith out of a sum of R400 million. “If you get bored of taking people’s money, you can simply run away and the investors won’t be able to catch up with me, as they drive ‘Corollas’,” states the man claiming to be ‘Sgumza’.

“The only reason the police have not made any arrest till date is simply because they are looking for Sphelele Mbatha and I am Sbongiseni Majola. Yes, they have the correct pictures, but they have a wrong name,” continues the recording.

Captain Mhlongo urges people to stop investing their hard-earned cash in ‘money-making schemes” that will leave them high and dry.

However, the voice recording begs the question: Are police looking for the right man? Or is Sgumza trying to mislead the authorities by saying he is Sbongiseni Majola?
