Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce welcomes easing of lockdown restrictions

"We still urge all citizens to continue practicing safety protocols during level 2 lockdown"

The Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the president’s decision to ease lockdown regulations.

This after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on August 15 that the national lockdown would move to level 2 as of Monday, August 17, at midnight.

Level 2 means that the ban on alcohol and cigarettes has been lifted, much to the delight of many.

The hospitality industry, restaurants, bars and taverns are now allowed to sell alcohol for on-site consumption until the curfew time of 10pm.

Licensed bottle stores are restricted to selling alcohol from Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm for off-site consumption.

“The Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce definitely welcomes the further opening of the economy, particularly for the hospitality and tourism sector, as well as the easing of restrictions on inter-provincial travel. The lifting of the ban on alcohol is of critical importance to restaurants, and the lifting of the ban on cigarettes will have a positive effect on tax revenues. As the Ladysmith Chamber, we still urge all citizens to continue practicing safety protocols during level 2 lockdown,” said Jennifer Wallace from the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce.
