uThukela strike disrupts water supply in many areas of Ladysmith

Countless burst pipes around town have been left unattended

The workers at uThukela District Municipality have been on strike since Tuesday this week (July 21). The strike is still on the go today (July 23).

As a result, service delivery in the Ladysmith area has been severely affected.

Countless burst pipes around town have been left unattended, and residents say that thousands of litres of water is going to waste.

Apart from the burst pipes, no water is being supplied due to the workers not being at work.

Ladysmith residents are fed up with the “pathetic” service delivery they get from uThukela. “During the Covid-19 pandemic, hygiene is vitally important, yet now there is no water to even wash our hands,” fumed one resident.
