Teaching on hold at uBulinga after allegations of corporal punishment

SANDF and police officers have been deployed to monitor the tense situation at uBulinga High School

Teaching came to a halt today (July 17) at uBulinga High School in the eMoyeni area of Bergville, with protesting parents accusing the teachers of using corporal punishment.

This comes after a 20-year-old learner at the school was admitted to Inkosi Albert Luthuli  Central Hospital in Durban.

It is alleged that the 20-year-old was hit by a teacher with a steel pipe within the school premises, which caused damage to the pupil’s spinal cord.

Incensed parents have taken to the streets of eMoyeni, and school activities are currently at a standstill.

The situation at the school is reported to be tense, with law enforcement officers (SANDF and police) having been deployed to make sure matters don’t get out of hand.
