KZN Education Department releases new reports on Covid-19

uThukela District has 19 positive cases in schools

Yesterday (Sunday, July 5), the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education released new reports on Covid-19 cases.

The recent reports revealed that uThukela District has 19 positive cases in schools.

On Sunday, KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala held a media briefing wherein he revealed that the number of infected individuals in schools in KZN is increasing. 429 positive cases have been reported recently, which is an increase of 242 from the 187 cases reported last week. The new figure includes 306 teachers, 81 learners and 42 other employees of the department.

uMgungundlovu remains the hardest hit district with 93 positive cases.

Five employees from the Department of Education have died as a result of the coronavirus.
The total number of affected schools in KZN is currently 345. 236 schools have returned to full operation after all due processes were followed. The 39 schools that reported positive cases on July 2 and 3 are expected to return to normal by not later than July 8.
