Suspect arrested for allegedly attempting to kill ex-girlfriend in Steadville

A shot was fired in the woman's direction, but the bullet missed and hit the TV instead

A 47-year-old man was arrested in Steadville earlier this week for allegedly attempting to kill his former girlfriend.

According to police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi, the woman was asleep in her home in Steadville Area-J on Wednesday (June 24) when her ex-boyfriend entered the house. He demanded to know why she was reporting him at the Maintenance Court and forcing him to pay maintenance for their child.

The terrified woman ran outside and locked the door behind her, trapping her attacker inside the house.

She then called Ladysmith police, who responded, and the suspect was arrested.
