Municipality to issue temporary business licences for level 4 lockdown

The issuing will take place at the Town Hall from 8am until 4pm on May 7

Alfred Duma Local Municipality will be officially issuing Temporary Business Licences for businesses affected by the level 4 Covid-19 lockdown.

The issuing will take place at the Town Hall tomorrow (Thursday, May 7) from 8am until 4pm.

The Business Act of 1991 (no. 71 of 1991) and its regulations allow municipalities to be a licensing authority, giving them powers to execute and issue business licences.

Section 2(3) of the Act gives powers to the licensing authority (municipality) which was given those powers by the administrator of the said Act, who is the MEC for Economic Development in KZN.

All municipalities in the province of KwaZulu-Natal were made licensing authorities in July 2018 through Government Gazette no. 1972, which meant that municipalities had to issue or refuse to issue licences within their jurisdiction, irrespective of the owner of the building or premises or land.

Regulation 6 to 9 of the Business Act expresses this in conjunction with the Act itself.

The following documents will be required for you to get a Temporary Business Licence.

1. Company Registration
2. CIPC Certificate
3. Registration numbers for vehicles to be used for delivery (restaurants)
4. Proof of address
5. Identity Document or Passport and valid work permit.
