FCS units continue to incarcerate sexual predators in the province

12 accused were sentenced for the crimes they committed

During the month of January 2020, detectives from Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences (FCS) units in KwaZulu-Natal secured five life sentences plus 89 years’ imprisonment for sexual predators.

The first month of the new decade saw FCS investigators arresting 354 suspects for various crimes such as rape, attempted rape, kidnapping, sexual assault, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

12 of the accused were sentenced in various courts in the province.

Two were sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, while another three were sentenced to life behind bars for rape and robbery.

“These arrests and convictions are an indication that police are dealing with crimes against women and children effectively. We appeal to men in society to play a more meaningful role in protecting women and children, as well as other vulnerable groups who are often viewed as weak and therefore subjected to abuse,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
