Residents up in arms again over ‘park party’

Residents around Coronation Park and surrounding streets are again up in arms over one of the biggest impromptu parties seen in the park this year. More than 20 vehicles converged on the park, adjacent to the Bowling Club.
The festivities started around lunchtime on Sunday, and continued until nightfall. Disturbance of the peace and drinking in public were quietly condoned by the Dundee police, according to some of the residents, who told the Courier that it took ‘excessive phone calls and pleading’ to get the police to respond, as they allegedly were told by members of the shift on duty that these people “had a right to enjoy themselves.”

“Coronation Park has been a bone of contention for as long as eight years now, with residents subjected to these impromptu parties and the concomitant noise, and local law enforcement turning a blind eye to the proceedings,” said one resident.
