Peeing in public is a problem

Despite it being a crime and extremely disgusting, people continue to pee in public.

It’s a common sight in and around town seeing people on the side of the road, relieving themselves, with not a care in the world.

But while peeing in public may not seem like a big deal to the culprits, it is actually a criminal offence.

Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that people caught committing the offence are issued a fine in terms of the municipal bylaws.

If the person admits the charge they can pay the fine but if they deny charges they will have to appear in court.

If they fail to appear in court, a warrant of arrest is issued against that particular person.

In Dannhauser, many people have already been charged with the offence – 35 were charged in January, 13 in February and so far nine in March.

They were each issued with a R100 fine.
