More than butter on this bread

"I felt something lumpy. The visitor then made a dash but I managed to arrest him at the gate of the court.

Using his instinct and possibly his strong sense of smell, Constable Sabelo Ndlela foiled an attempt to smuggle dagga and mandrax to a detainee appearing in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court.
He was on duty as a court orderly on Friday morning when a man made an appearance on a charge of theft out of a motor vehicle. Upon his return to the holding cell, the accused’s friend approached him to give him a loaf of bread, juice and chips. Constable Ndlela was immediately suspicious and decided to feel the bread.
“I felt something lumpy. The visitor then made a dash but I managed to arrest him at the gate of the court.” Constable Ndlela then cut open the loaf of bread only to find to sticks of dagga and one mandrax tablet.
“His intention was to give his friend more than a snack,” Constable Ndlela said. The friend was promptly arrested and spent the weekend with the accused.
