Lovers disrupted, hijacked in park

However, in a sudden act of generosity, one of the men gave the couple R50 ‘to help them catch a lift home’.

A courting couple enjoying a bit of early Valentie’s love were rudely interrupted in Coronation Park by a group of car hijackers.

The lovers were ‘making out’ in the early evening when they were approached by the men who threatened them with firearms.

They were forced into their vehicle and driven on to the Helpmekaar road.  There, the gang dumped the couple out of the car after robbing them of money and cellphones.

However, in a sudden act of generosity, one of the men gave the couple R50 ‘to help them catch a lift home’.

The men then drove off in the couple’s car.

Coronation Park on McKenzie Street has long been a venue for anti social behaviour and nearby residents have fought a long battle with rowdy party goers, drunks and litter bugs.

However, this is the first time that criminals have pounced in the park and police have warned people not to go there after sunset.
