Hope is in sight for the much maligned cemeteries in Glencoe after a decision was made for the erection of fences to commence in two weeks time.
The fencing at Burnside Cemetery is set to be erected on or before February 15.
According to Assistant Waste Manager, Patrick Ndlovu, “the service providers have been appointed and all systems are ready to go.”
After phase one, that entails the fencing of Burnside cemeteries, as well as the erecting of a gate, Sibongile ceremony will be next in line to receive fencing and gates.
Patrick explained that, “both cemeteries will undergo three phases of fencing owing to the large sum of money involved.”
He also added that, “once the concrete palisade fencing is put up, the Municipality will also look into renovating the old store room at Burnside Cemetery.”
This renovation will include replacing the glass in the window panes, painting the walls and replacing all broken and stolen copper pipes and taps.
