[CRIME]: Police recover stolen goods worth R70K

All suspects have since appeared in court.

Police officials made a number of arrests and recovered a variety of stolen goods over the course of a three-day operation in the Osizweni policing area.

Lizzy Arumugam of SAPS Newcastle Corporate Communications confirmed that the Newcastle Cluster Task Team, which worked with members of Osizweni Crime Prevention and Osizweni Reservists recovered a silver Norinco 9mm pistol magazine and ammunition during a raid at the Cavan Area at Mpolo.

“The intelligence driven operations yielded positive results as two suspects, aged between 27 and 29, were arrested for possession of Mandrax tablets. The recovered estimated street value for the Mandrax tablets was around R1 600,” she explained.

Another nine suspects were arrested for possession of a suspected stolen goods, age between 25 and 39. The estimated value for all the  suspected stolen goods recovered was approximately R70 000.

“One suspect (56) was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. Another four suspects were arrested for the possession of Eskom equipment for illegal connections. The suspects are aged between 30 and 39,” said Arumugam.

All suspects have since appeared at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court.
