eMadlangeni Mayor commits to protecting the elderly

eMadlangeni Mayor, Lindile Mhlungu recently handed out cloth masks to senior citizens.

eMadlangeni Mayor, Cllr Lindile Mhlungu recently provided protective gear to elderly pensioners waiting in line for social grants.

During an awareness and assessment campaign, Cllr Mhlungu noticed two elderly pensioners sharing masks while waiting at a paypoint at the Post Office. Concerned, she returned the next day to distribute cloth face masks and educational material to those waiting in line.

“Cllr Mhlungu was there to assess whether pensioners were adhering to lockdown regulations and practising social distancing,” explained Ayanda Mabaso, Head of Communications for eMadlangeni Municipality.

While Covid-19 numbers increase on a daily basis in South Africa, eMadlangeni has no reported cases of coronavirus.

“Our Disaster Management team is consistently sanitising all public areas in Utrecht. This is especially important at the backdrop of social grant payouts, as a precautionary measure to ensure these areas are properly sanitised in preparation for the next group of social grant beneficiaries. The municipality is committed to ensuring the safety and protection of grant recipients and the community at large.”
