Puppy ‘dumping’ leads to animal’s death

"The animal was in shock and was trembling with fear," said the SPCA's Heather Gero.

The Newcastle SPCA is investigating a traumatic incident on Wednesday afternoon, which resulted in the death of a puppy.

When staff members arrived at the SPCA early on Thursday morning, they found a puppy had been placed inside a box and thrown over the fence hours earlier. The SPCA’s Heather Gero explained the animal was found in a ‘frightful state’.

“The animal was in shock and was trembling with fear. The young puppy had suffered severe head trauma from the fall and unfortunately had to be taken to [a local veterinarian] where the animal had to be euthanised, as too many injuries had been sustained.”
