South Africa continued the tradition of winning the Webb Ellis cup 12 years apart, having won it in 1995 and 2007 previously.

The match was kept local fans on the edge of their seats.

The first half was a true battle of attrition, with both teams delivering tackles and several players leaving the game early injured.

However, the Boks defence packed a punch and England could not find its way through to the try line.

Loud cheers erupted from the crowd as the powerful South African forwards then set the tone at the scrum, forcing England to transgress numerous times. This contributed to a 12-6 South African lead at half-time, thanks to four penalty goals from fly-half, Handre Pollard.

Towards the end of the match, fans’ spirits soared even further as victory came into sight, and when the siren went off to mark the end of the match, the room exploded with victorious cheers.
