Anglers reel in victory at NFWAA semi-finals

The heaviest carp was caught by Marcus David of Freespool, weighing 4,320 kilograms, while Roy Ajudhiya of Chelmsford reeled in the heaviest barbel weighing 5,454 kg.

It was time for anglers from the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) to cast off again, after a month-long break due to religious fasting.

The semi-finals of the Devland Impuphu Knockout were the most anticipated fixtures of the season.

Defending champions Itec Freespool cast off against Endumeni Angling Club of Glencoe in Zone 4, while Chelmsford AC did battle with Riverside AC of Dundee at Zone 2, Richgate Park.

Anglers started reeling in fish as early as 7am, which made them excited and kept their hopes high.

As the day progressed and with the sun blazing at 37 degrees, the bigger fish started to bite and tensions started to run high, as clubs had to work hard to ensure progress to the finals.

At the weigh-in, the anglers’ nets were proof enough it was a good day’s fishing.

Itec Freespool ran rampant over its young opponents Endumeni, securing a win by 66 points to 35, while the ever improving Riverside beat Chelmsford by 65 to 52.
