There’s lots to do in Newcastle this weekend!

1. Weekly Parkrun

Why not lace up your tekkies and commit to a healthier lifestyle at the free weekly parkrun? The event takes place at the Grey Goose Game Lodge on Saturday mornings, and is volunteer-led. For more information, contact Wonda Wilson on 082 572 3336.

2. Reunion 

Sangeetha Naicker is planning a reunion of ex-employees who served apprenticeships at Venco Engineering from 1972 to 1985. You can call her on 082 612 2405 for details.

 

3. Oval Track

The Newcastle Raceway National Championships takes place this weekend! On Saturday, motoring enthusiasts are in for a treat as the action heats up at the Oval Track. Gates open from 10am and racing starts at 4pm. Tickets are R80 per adult, R40 for children between seven and 12, and free for pensioners and children under six. You don’t want to miss this one!

Paradise Hindu Temple:
September 29 to October 7 – The annual Navarathri prayer will be conducted at the temple from 6pm onwards, by Guru Kishan Naidoo. Sponsors are urged to contact D.M. Naidoo on 034 312 8662 for more information. All are welcome.

Navarathri:
September 29 to October 7 – The Newcastle Siva Subramanian Temple invites you to partake in the Navarathri celebration. A vibrant programme has been planned and satsang will be held daily from 6pm. HPS Temple:
September 29 to October 7 – You are invited to attend the Navarathri celebrations at the temple. Programme: September 29 at 4pm, September 30 to October 4 from 6pm, October 5 at 4pm, October 6 – Jhunda will be hoisted at 7.30am and Saraswathie and Bandhi Pooja is from 4pm, and on October 7 at 6pm. Durga Mahima:
September 29 to October 8 – The Sat-Chit-Ananda Temple Society of Newcastle is hosting a Maha Navarathri Aradhna Utsav. Daily abhishekam from 5.30pm and programme from 6.30pm on weekdays, and on weekends from 4.30pm at 164 Panorama Drive, Fernwood. Devotees who wish to dress, adorn or provide parsadh are welcome. Please carry along 108 petals to offer Divine Mother.

Deo Victoria Church:
October 6 – The First Sunday Worship will take place at 6pm at 135 Drakensberg Avenue, Barry Hertzog Park. For more information, phone 034 318 1400.

Nofta’s Navarathri Hawan and Pooja:
October 7 – Nofta will be hosting a Navarathri pooja and hawan at the Nofta Service Centre for Nofta members. This will take place at 10.30am and all members are invited to attend.
