Dear Reader,

Trust and respect is earned, and not freely given.

In a country where double checking all your windows are secure and constantly looking over your shoulder has become a norm, broken trust is not something we easily forgive or forget.

Over the course of the past couple of weeks, one significant detail has stood out – residents are quickly losing faith in the leadership of this town.

Apart from the usual claims of apathetic non-service delivery, the protests and threats of shutting off our power was bad enough.

The recent straw that may break the proverbial camel’s back is water… Or rather, our recent lack thereof.

Residents have reported either low pressure or a complete lack of water from all over Newcastle and surrounds.

First a shocking property reevaluation, then Eskom and now uThukela Water… we can’t help but wonder: What next?
